The Dimming of the Day

I just took down a show at my local coffee shop, Cup a Joe. It was a lot of fun and I had some really good feedback. This piece was part of the show. I rarely use pictures of my family but in this case I came across a rejected photocopy of a picture of my parents, one that I never saw until a few years ago. Since my parents were close to 50 when I was born I never saw them as this young. In fact I don't think we had any pictures of them as a couple, so I loved getting this picture in the mail from an elderly cousin a few years ago. It seemed to fit into this piece when I was about 1/3 of the way into it. I took the title from a Bonnie Raitt song I love.

I just finished this, well not quite. There are still a few things to do but mostly it's done. I set out to make something "cheery" .....well, I did stick to bright colors. My daughter said it looks like Mardi Gras, Day of the Dead, and Easter all in one.
